OET Occupational English Test is an international English Proficiency test to assess the communication skills of health care professionals who wish to register and practice in an English-Speaking environment. OET is acceptable in various countries including Australia, USA, UK, Canada, Maldives, New Zealand and Ireland. The ownership of this test lies with Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Trust (CBLA), a venture between Cambridge English and Box Hill Institute.

This is another test just like IELTS, PTE or TOEFL but only for healthcare professionals to move abroad.

OET is divided into four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking with a total score of 500 each. There is no pass or fail but a graded score. Test takers receive a numerical score card which mentions grade for each of the skill, ranging from A (highest) to E (Lowest).

The duration of entire test is around 2 hours and 50 minutes and is a 1 day test.  12 versions of the test are offered by OET for different health care professions, which include:

Nurses, Doctors, Dentists

Pharmacists, Optometrists, Podiatrists

Occupational therapists, Veterinary doctors, Dieticians

Physiotherapists, Radiographers, Speech Pathologists.

Reading and listening are the same for all professionals with a slight change in writing and speaking which are particular to the profession.

The cost of OET exam is around $455 while the validity of result is 2 years and is expired after this period. It takes around 16 business days for the result to be issued. OET allows the test takers to apply for remark but it must be done within 72 hours of taking the test. If due to any reasons, you plan to cancel or withdraw your test it must be done in less than two days to claim the refund, otherwise, there will be no refund.
